About Us
Valley Auction Ltd. has been a trusted name in the auction industry since 1964. Owned and operated by the Raffan family, it was a cornerstone of the farming community in Spallumcheen, BC, for decades. Located along Highway 97 until 2021, Valley Auction Ltd. was a bustling marketplace where buyers and sellers gathered from across British Columbia.​​​​

At its peak, the auction house held weekly cattle sales, specialty horse sales, machinery auctions, and car sales. Every Thursday, local farmers and families came together to sell livestock—including cattle, sheep, pigs, goats, chickens, ducks, and rabbits—along with fresh local produce, household items, and more. More than just a place of business, it was a community hub where lifelong friendships were formed.
Jim Raffan
The success of Valley Auction Ltd. was built on the dedication of its hardworking team, many of whom were with the company spanning decades. Brothers Don and Peter Raffan took over the business in the 1980s after the passing of their father, Jim Raffan. With their mother, Margaret Raffan, a constant presence at every sale, they worked tirelessly to keep their father's legacy alive. The livestock auctions remained a vital part of the business until 2016, when changing industry trends, declining cattle numbers, and the rise of online auctions led to a shift in operations.

Though the physical location closed in 2021, Valley Auction Ltd.’s legacy continues. Don Raffan, alongside his youngest son, Brody Raffan, carries forward the family’s auctioneering tradition. Partnering with Active Auction Mart, they specialize in on-site estate sales, farm machinery and equipment auctions, and restaurant equipment sales, now with the added convenience of online bidding. Don also provides contract auctioneering services for agricultural sales and proudly donates his time to community fundraisers and charity auctions.
While the building that housed Valley Auction Ltd. is no longer theirs, the heart of the business remains. With decades of experience and a passion for the industry, the Raffan family and their team are dedicated to serving clients across British Columbia and Alberta.
